Literary Saloon Reading Series

The Literary Saloon is back! Join us for our first event of 2025 at a whole new venue, Whoopsie Daisy in Crown Heights. We’ll hear from Ariel Courage, Veasna Has, and Sonia Alejandra Rodríguez. Sunday, April 27th, at 6 PM. Hope to see you there!

The Literary Saloon is a monthly, mixed-genre reading series with a particular focus on uplifting emerging and marginalized voices. The series formerly known as The NYDC Reading Series began in spring of 2021 as a way to bring together literary folks of all stripes in a way that felt reasonably COVID-safe, and grew into a thriving showcase of local literary talent – poetry, prose, and anything in between. Past readers include Anselm Berrigan, Vanessa Chan, Elaine Hsieh Chou, John Coletti, Jenzo DuQue, Willie Filkowski, Nancy Huang, Chantal V. Johnson, Isle McElroy, Emi Nietfeld, Monique Ngozi Nri, Soraya Palmer, Helen Phillips, Ben Purkert, Erin Swan, Qian Julie Wang, and many, many others.

Unfortunately, our home at the New York Distilling Company no longer exists, and I am no longer associated with the former namesake NYDC. We held the final NYDC reading on Sunday, April 2nd, 2023 and relaunched as the Literary Saloon with a special themed Industry Night at the Center For Fiction in August, and as a monthly event in March 2024.
